SPRINGFIELD, ORE, 8/14/24 – Richardson has successfully modernized its lighting system with the help of Oregon Electric Service, transitioning from outdated fluorescent lights to advanced LED technology in their Springfield headquarters. The upgrade, completed with minimal downtime and no disruption to productivity, not only boosts operational efficiency but enhances employee well-being.
Richardson’s commitment to quality in both products and its work environment drove the decision to make this switch. Beyond improving energy efficiency, LEDs offer several key health benefits that contribute to a better workplace:
- Health Benefits of LEDs: The new lights contribute to better employee well-being by mimicking natural sunlight, which helps regulate circadian rhythms and improve alertness. They also reduce flickering common with fluorescent lights, decreasing the likelihood of headaches and migraines. Their ability to offer customizable light levels and warmer color temperatures can also lower stress and anxiety, creating a more comfortable work environment.
- Boost in Efficiency: LED lights are up to 80% more energy-efficient than fluorescents, converting 95% of their energy into light and only 5% into heat. They require less power to produce consistent, bright output and boast a lifespan of up to 60,000 hours compared to the 10,000 hours typical of fluorescent bulbs.
- Durable and Environmentally Conscious: Beyond efficiency, LEDs are more durable and environmentally friendly. Unlike fluorescent lights, LEDs are solid-state devices and do not contain hazardous materials like mercury, eliminating concerns about toxic vapor in case of breakage and reducing possible negative environmental impacts.
- Improved Color Matching: The switch also improves color accuracy. LED lights can produce a full spectrum of colors, providing more precise color matching compared to the artificial hues of fluorescent lighting. This upgrade enhances the quality of color matching in Richardson’s factory, benefiting product creation.
- Better Production Visibility: LEDs emit light in a focused 180-degree beam, reducing the need for reflectors or fixtures to direct the light. This improvement is particularly beneficial in areas such as the headwear production floor, where better visibility over embroidery machines and other workstations is crucial.
